Summary

Homicide detective Frost Easton doesn’t like coincidences。 When a series of bizarre deaths rock San Francisco—as seemingly random women suffer violent psychotic breaks—Frost looks for a connection that leads him to psychiatrist Francesca Stein。 Frankie’s controversial therapy helps people erase their most terrifying memories…and all the victims were her patients。

As Frost and Frankie carry out their own investigations, the case becomes increasingly personal—and dangerous。 Long-submerged secrets surface as someone called the Night Bird taunts the pair with cryptic messages pertaining to the deaths。 Soon Frankie is forced to confront strange gaps in her own memory, and Frost faces a killer who knows the detective’s worst fears。

As the body count rises and the Night Bird circles ever closer, a dedicated cop and a brilliant doctor race to solve the puzzle before a cunning killer claims another victim。

Dost slušné čtení。 Závěr mě sice nijak nepřekvapil, ale Frost je sympatický (a co teprve jeho kocour!) a četlo se to samo。

What if you could erase a person's worst memory and change it?This is the question at the heart of "The Night Bird" which introduces Frost Easton as a s character。A killer is at large using hypnosis and psychology to kill victims。Overall。。。too calculated and the characters are never fully developed to be of interest。 What if you could erase a person's worst memory and change it?This is the question at the heart of "The Night Bird" which introduces Frost Easton as a s character。A killer is at large using hypnosis and psychology to kill victims。Overall。。。too calculated and the characters are never fully developed to be of interest。 。。。more

I love and hate psychological thrillers。 Sometimes my imagination is way to vivid for them and they get under my skin。 But the same reason I hate them is also the reason I love them。 And this one has a cat so there's that。 I will definitely be reading the rest of the series。 I am already listening to a different book/series by this author and I like his writing style a lot。 I'm glad he was recommended to me。 He is certainly going on my favorite authors shelf。 I love and hate psychological thrillers。 Sometimes my imagination is way to vivid for them and they get under my skin。 But the same reason I hate them is also the reason I love them。 And this one has a cat so there's that。 I will definitely be reading the rest of the series。 I am already listening to a different book/series by this author and I like his writing style a lot。 I'm glad he was recommended to me。 He is certainly going on my favorite authors shelf。 。。。more

A serial killer is getting inside of the head's of his victim, causing them to live their worst fears/memories and then die/kill themselves。 A detective, a kind of shady female shrink, and a young girl who just witnessed the suicide of her best friend are all in a race to track down "The Night Bird" before he can strike again。 Definitely worth an audio listen if you want to hear some creepy, eeerie sounds。 A serial killer is getting inside of the head's of his victim, causing them to live their worst fears/memories and then die/kill themselves。 A detective, a kind of shady female shrink, and a young girl who just witnessed the suicide of her best friend are all in a race to track down "The Night Bird" before he can strike again。 Definitely worth an audio listen if you want to hear some creepy, eeerie sounds。 。。。more

Suspenseful This was a pretty good story。 The twist was slightly predictable as far as the red herring went, though。 The methods used involving the mind was the most creative part and I enjoyed that。 It also teetered along the lines of doing what's right and patient/doctor privilege and the ethical ramifications surrounding that, as there will always be a gray area in some cases。Also, it was easy to empathize with Frankie。 There were glimpses in regards to Jason that didn't sit right with me and Suspenseful This was a pretty good story。 The twist was slightly predictable as far as the red herring went, though。 The methods used involving the mind was the most creative part and I enjoyed that。 It also teetered along the lines of doing what's right and patient/doctor privilege and the ethical ramifications surrounding that, as there will always be a gray area in some cases。Also, it was easy to empathize with Frankie。 There were glimpses in regards to Jason that didn't sit right with me and made him not very likable and the main instance that did, was that he no longer ran together with Frankie because she outpaces him like a spoiled child。 If this was the intention, then the mission was accomplished。 I do understand why he would feel hurt and shut out。。。that can be empathized with, but he had a terrible personality as did her sister。Anyway, reading this caused so many emotions for me and feeling sorry for most of the characters, including the killer, which I feel is the strong point。 I do wonder how Frankie moves on from this point, even though this is Frost's story。 I look forward to checking out more cases with Frost who is just a fun character。 I like his casual approaches to most things in his life。 。。。more

Great psychological thriller。

It was night。 Eleven o’clock。 Tendrils of fog laced through the darkness like ghosts spiriting between the bridge cables。 The giant suspender climbed above the car, outlined by white lights, with rows of taller and taller cables leaning toward the main tower。 A cold, ferocious wind whirled and sang。 Lucy sensed the almost-imperceptible sway of the bridge deck under the car, reminding her that she was trapped in midair。In this stylish thriller, a killer known as the Nightbird (from a Carole King It was night。 Eleven o’clock。 Tendrils of fog laced through the darkness like ghosts spiriting between the bridge cables。 The giant suspender climbed above the car, outlined by white lights, with rows of taller and taller cables leaning toward the main tower。 A cold, ferocious wind whirled and sang。 Lucy sensed the almost-imperceptible sway of the bridge deck under the car, reminding her that she was trapped in midair。In this stylish thriller, a killer known as the Nightbird (from a Carole King song) is screwing with the minds of the patients of San Francisco psychologist Dr Francesca Stein (a play on Frankenstein) who she treated for phobias – forcing them to commit suicide。Investigating detective Frost Easton held several jobs before joining the SF police, following the murder of his sister Katie。 He lives in a Russian Hill mansion – the result of another murder investigation, where the elderly victim left the house in her will at a peppercorn rent in return for looking after her cat, Shack (named after Australian Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton)。 His brother Duane is a chef with a food truck stationed in the SoMa district south of Market Street, which keeps Frost’s own fridge replenished, and an old friend Herb – a relic from the ‘60’s flower-power days, is a pavement artist drawing 3-D tromp d’oeil landscapes – with a network of contacts spanning the city。 Frost stood next to the Sausalito attorney at the end of Johnson Street, where the sailboats bobbed in the town’s yacht harbor。 Beyond the waters of the small inlet, he could see the brown hills of Tiburon。 This little stretch of paradise north of the Golden Gate Bridge was where you lived if you had more money than God。 Even God couldn’t afford the views here。In the hands of the author, San Francisco forms a character within the book itself – with its iconic bridges, bays, parklands and even its derelict industrial estates。 The Golden Gate Bridge loomed immediately to the west, but the bridge was enveloped in a ridge of fog and almost invisible。 San Francisco near the Presidio was often like a different city。 Even when it was sunny and warm downtown, the temperature could be twenty degrees colder close to the ocean, where a damp cloud laid its chilly fingers across the coast。The human side too – Union Square, the art deco building between Leavenworth and Hyde, the Giant’s stadium, and Zingari, the famous Italian restaurant where Frankie and her sister Pam bicker, served by the archly gay Virgil – “if you two are going to fight, let me sell tickets。"This was a real gem: I thought I knew who the villain was half-way through but that was deflection。 It was the first book I have read by author Brian Freeman and I look forward to reading more。 。。。more

The first chapter had me a little worried that I'd made a poor choice。 There was a lot of setting the scene with references to current movies, music, and even specifics on the devices characters were using that were not necessary。 But, I continued and it turned into a great book that had me constantly revising my hypothesis as each new clue was revealed right up until the end。 I bought the next book in the series the minute I finished this one。 The first chapter had me a little worried that I'd made a poor choice。 There was a lot of setting the scene with references to current movies, music, and even specifics on the devices characters were using that were not necessary。 But, I continued and it turned into a great book that had me constantly revising my hypothesis as each new clue was revealed right up until the end。 I bought the next book in the series the minute I finished this one。 。。。more

ExcellentExcellent story, interesting characters with the main character, Frost, carrying the story。 I hope to read many more tales of his exploits。 I have the 2nd in the series waiting for me to delve into it。 This story was very interesting as it had to do with memories - real, forgotten or manufactured。 Recommend!

ThrillerI liked the characters and the plot。 I need to know why his parents named him Frost。 Maybe Book 2?

Just so many things wrong here。。。geesh。 When did police detectives work on their on their own? When were they called Inspectors? Why was one female character consistently called cute and nothing else? Oh, and the mystery? I can’t even。。。。And the list goes on。 Just a stupidly ridiculous book and so disappointing from an author whom I have enjoyed before。

3,5 stars maybe? The book is definitely gripping and you are not going to be able to stop。 I dedicated ALL my free time to it until I finally finished, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the end。 I expected so much and it was so obvious in the end! The “shocking” info the psychologist finds out by the end is also extremely obvious。 Not to mention how unlikeable she is。 Overall nice read but from how hooked I was since the beginning, I expected more by the end。

The story of how I found a new interesting writer - Brian Feeman, everyone。 I loved the narrative of this story, the changes and turns, surprises and let downs。 Very well written thriller, the story itself written on as many pages as it takes to not make it a long mass of nothing。 Just read it。

Loved this book!Fascinating storyline。。kept me guessing to the end! Highly recommend this author and this series。 Love Easton and Shak, funny story。

This book does keep you reading but the premise is so unbelievable that I can’t recommend it。 The idea that one would rather die than be confronted with memories of their phobias makes no sense。 Phobias, in the end, are really a fear of death。 Fear of heights, snakes, bridges, cats。。。 are really a fear of (fill in phobia here) of dying。 Therefore dying to avoid them makes absolutely no sense。
